Télécom Paris is currently inviting companies to propose project topics about AI for its third-year students.
Télécom Paris is a leading French school in computer science. As part of their 3rd year curriculum students can choose to specialize in AI, in which case they do an AI project as part of their curriculum. This AI project can be done either at a company or in a research lab.
The students work on their project part-time (in parallel with their classes), roughly from October to end of February. Students are expected to spend 225 hours of work overall on the projects. Topics can be proposed to single students or to groups of 2-4 students. These projects are part of the student's curriculum, so they are not paid. In administrative terms, Télécom prepares a convention for the student's project, to be signed by a representative of the company.
The students can organize themselves freely during the duration of the project: you can decide with them how much time the student would spend in the company, or if they would work mostly remotely, as well as the frequency of meetings. The project is supervised by someone at the company, and a teacher at Télécom is in charge of following the progress of the student, making sure that everything goes well, and organizing a defense and grading the project before the end of February.
This call is mostly aimed at companies in the Parisian area, so that the student has a chance of physically meeting people at the company; but completely remote options can also be considered.
The project should be related to AI or machine learning. As the time frame is quite short, it is better to avoid topics with complex prerequisites or with dependencies on existing infrastructure. It is better if the students can work autonomously. For instance, the topic can be about the analysis of a dataset, prediction of features from a dataset, natural language processing, image and video processing, benchmarking several learning approaches, etc.
The goal of the project is for the student to practise what they have learned as part of their AI studies at Télécom, extend their knowledge about AI, and gain practical experience. In addition, this is an opportunity for students to have an experience of working in innovative companies, and gain some perspective about possible career options at the end of their last year.
Topics can be proposed as a 1-2 page PDF document presenting the project topic, describing the host company, and giving contact information where the students can apply. The document can be written in English or in French. The document should indicate whether the topic is intended for a single student or for a group: for groups, please indicate how many students can be accepted and how the work will be divided among them.
The projects will then be sent to students, who will apply directly to the indicated contact information.
Please send the projects to Antoine Amarilli <antoine.amarilli
@telecom-paris.fr>.The initial deadline to propose projects is set to Monday, September 19th.
Questions about the call which are not answered on this page should be sent by email to the address above.
